Catholic Divorced, Widowed, Separated (CDWS)

We (CDWS) are a support group for divorced, widowed and separated Catholics and those of any faith in the Oakland Diocese.  Our goal is to grow together and individually, in a spirit of love and laughter as we journey through the trials of emotional, psychological and spiritual growth.  We encourage all who are struggling from a loss to paticipate in our peer group meetings.  You are not alone.  The meetings are free and all are welcome.

Loving Hands

The Loving Hands ministry assists families with a reception following funeral services held at St. Mary Church.  When a request is made to have a funeral at St. Mary Church, the family is offered a reception at no cost following the services.   If the family accepts, the members of the ministry are called upon to help prepare and deliver food, set up or clean up after the reception.

Respect Life Ministry

Purpose: To actively promote a renewed respect for human life. This is consistent with the Holy Father’s exhortation to build a culture of life. To assist parishioners in understanding the issues and importance of meeting the needs of those who are most vulnerable-especially mothers and their unborn children, and those who are seriously ill or dying and their families. To promote and assist pregnancy counseling and maternity support services, as well as post-abortion counseling and reconciliation programs, and make these well known in the parish and local community. To foster awareness of the need to restore legal protection to the lives of unborn children to the maximun degree possible and to safeguard in law the lives of those who are chronically ill, disabled or dying. To keep parishioners informed of upcoming legislation, and at the direction of the diocesan pro-life director, organize letter writing where important votes are expected. Members also pray the rosary on Thursdays at 7:00am in front of Planned Parenthood on Oakland Blvd., Walnut Creek.
