How do I arrange for the celebration of First Sacraments at St. Mary?
Children's First Eucharist (First Communion) and First Reconciliation is usually in the Second Grade or above. Children are eligible for First Sacraments during the second year of formal religious education, either in the school or parish faith formation program.
Children preparing for FIRST SACRAMENTS must:
be enrolled in 2nd grade and participated in Little Saints or St. Mary’s School for at least one year prior to the sacrament year (i.e., it is a 2-year process),
register for Little Saints at the beginning of the sacrament year if they are not enrolled in the school
receive an invitation from the Faith Formation Office to register for the sacraments
participate in extra sessions with their parents that prepare them for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist.
First Reconciliation (Confession) must be received before First Communion in the Diocese of Oakland. Preparation for First Reconciliation usually begins in late October or early November. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is received in January or February.
First Communion preparation begins in March. The Sacrament of Holy Eucharist is received in early May usually on the first Saturday.
